Malcolm is ‘player of the season’

Vale veteran Malcolm Fowler is the First Team Player of the Year.  His award was announced at an end of season dinner attended by more than 100 players and supporters.  Scrum half Owen Hughes was the Players Player of the Season, Sam Wallbank was revealed as the A team Player of the Season, Paul Ford was the Vikings’ choice and Dan Rainford topped the B team poll. The Ladies named Holly Cumpstey as Young Player of the Season, Kath Evans was the Most Improved, Emma Bolton was Player of the Season and Jenny Evans was awarded the Sue Garnett Memorial Award.  Director of Rugby, Andy Higgin paid tribute to all the players.  He said the club had found its identity and rediscovered its pride in what had ben an enjoyable season.

Top tens tournament at Vale

Vale of Lune are staging a 10s tournament at their Powderhouse Lane ground on Saturday.  Sixteen teams from Lancashire and Cumbria wll be involved in the event, a national one, sponsored by Heineken. The formant has become very popular with games only lasting 20 minutes during which the action is fast and furious.   Vale have entered two teams and they are joined by Fylde Storm, Blackburn, Aspull, Carnforth, Kirkby Lonsdale, Tarleton, Old Lancastrians (former pupils at Lancaster Royal Grammar School, Lancaster University and University of Cumbria.  The action kicks off at 11.30 with ames being played on three ov Vale’s pitches.  Other attractions include an arm assault course and a bouncy castle.  A special BBQ will be on the go all afternoon.  Entry to the ground is £2.
