Vale Junior Colts v Doncaster Junior Colts
Sunday 14th March
The Vale of Lune Junior Colts having beaten
Consett up in Durham now face another
difficult task in having to face Yorkshire
rivals Doncaster.
Lancashire RFU president Clif Barker will be a special guest at Vale’s game against Tyldesley at Powderhouse Lane on Saturday. It promises to be a great match against old and friendly rivals. Please note that the game will kick off at 3pm as will all of the rest of the home fixtures this season.
The next popular Vale of Lune sporting evening is on Friday 19th March when England cricket selector Geoff Miller will be the guest speaker. As usual Sky TV’s John Gwyne will be the master of ceremonies. A few tickets, costing £3o, are still available from club secretary Peter Lovett-Horn on 01524 64029.
Lymm RFC is mourning the death of one of its former Presidents and long serving member, Keith Etherington who died on March 1st. A popular member of the Cheshire club, Keith will also be remembered as a highly regarded and popular referee.
Keith was a gentleman in every sense of the word with a huge appetite and enthusiasm for the game of rugby. His knowledge and experience earned him huge respect, not only throughout his own club and Cheshire, but in Northern rugby; witty and candid, Keith’s opinions were widely sought and valued.
Such a character is going to be missed by everyone who was fortunate to come into contact with him and certainly the clubhouse at Beechwood will not be the same without Keith Etherington.
Our condolences are extended to all Keith’s family at this sad time. The funeral will take place at Altrincham Crematorium (Dunham) on Friday March 12th at 3.00 pm., further details can be obtained from Lymm’s web site.
The re-arranged fixtures for the Vale 1st team have now been entered on the website. As supplied by Fred Swarbrick today Monday 15/02/10 at 17.30.

Vale members and players are reminded that all stubs for the RFU raffle must be returned to the secretary before the end of February. The raffle provides everybody associated with Vale with the opportunity of helping raise funds. For every £1 ticket sold, the club gets to retain 90p.
The re-arrangements for all the Vale 2nd, 3rd and 4th teams have now been decided.
These are now displayed in the relevant team fixtures.
Only the “A” team match at Penrith has still to be agreed but will probably be an evening match in April.
When confirmed it will be advertised on the website.

Vale of Lune’s game against Leigh on Saturday and the eagerly awaited return game between Vale Vikings and Vale B team have been called off because of the condition of the Powderhouse Lane pitches. Geoff Marsden, Vale’s ground committee chairman, said today: “The pitches are recovering after the snow and ice but they need more time. I walked across all of them today and there is no way that they could be fit before Saturday.”
Training will take place at Bay Horse Riding School on Thursday.
The Vale minibus will leave the Vale at 6.30pm prompt. Only the first 12 will be on this.
Anyone travelling direct can obtain directions from Swazzer.

Players should get in touch with Steve Swarbrick to establish where training will be taking place at the weekend. Vale have rearranged the game against Broughton Park to be played at Powderhouse Lane on Saturday 6th February and they will play at Burnage on 27th February.
Club house manager Derrick Freedman reminds all members that there are televised games to be watched on Saturday and he will be providing food. The bar will be open from mid-day.
