All Vale Fixtures now on website including Colts

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

All Vale Senior  Team Fixtures are now on the website including Colts from today 20/07/10.

As usual look under “Rugby”, “Seniors”, 2010/2011″.

One difference this season, the “A” Team will be playing under the “Conference” system so only the first half of the fixtures can be shown.

After that the league is split into two halves and then all SEVEN teams in each half play each other  twice.

Latest photos of the “New Build” ie New Changing Rooms

Monday, June 7th, 2010

 Latest as at 23/08/10

All Pictures are courtesy of Andy Perry.

Start at bottom and work upwards to see the progress from the beginning.

Here are today’s pictures of the new changing rooms. As we have said, progress is being made and here you can see that progress is indeed moving on apace! The scaffolding is now down and the rendered finish is in place on the front and one side of the building. We have finally managed to get some pictures inside and these show the showers and changing area of the biggest changing room and a through shot of one of the others, as well as a picture down the main corridor. The target of having the rooms open for the Home first team fixture against Kirkby Lonsdale is still very much in sight and the contractors are putting in the hours to keep that target achievable.

Here are the latest pictures of the changing rooms development. As can be seen, the roof is part clad, doors in place and other openings boarded to provide the security needed to protect the workings that are underway on the interior. As those progress and more light is available inside, I will try and get more inside pictures as well as continuing with those of the exterior of the building. Seen ‘in the flesh’ the building is already impressive but hopefully those of you from away who rely on these pictures to keep up with the building will see what the members are trying to do to improve the facilities at Powder House Lane. You can read more by clicking on the ‘Fundraising’ and ‘Development’ links from the Home page.

Pictures taken by Andy on Friday 16th July.

This week’s pictures show some of the inside of the development so far. As can be seen from the dark interior, the roof is in place, though it doesn’t seem to be weatherproof yet! The inside pictures show some of the changing rooms, the main corridor and the exit onto the pitch. The exterior shows the first of the roof supports in place. We also include a copy of the plan of the interior of the changing rooms which shows the main changing room at the top and smaller changing rooms at the bottom. The smaller rooms’ showers are all at the end of the changing rooms that is nearest to the pitch. To give an idea to all players and former players, the smallest changing room is still bigger in total area than the largest of the old ones. Progress on the development is going to date with the scheduled first use still being the First XV match against Kirkby Lonsdale in September.

Ripley and LRGS met in an exciting final with LRGS proving the strongest and fittest. Special thanks must go to Phil Jackson for organising the Tournament and also to Frazer Spavin and Dan Birchall who both had an exceptional Tournament.

“Alex Baines, Matthew Rogerson and Oli Carter all from Ripley St Thomas School and the Vale of Lune Rugby Club represented Lancashire Under 17’s on Sunday against a strong Yorkshire team at York Rugby Club. Matthew and Alex enjoyed good solid performances in the Forwards and Oli Captained the team from Inside Centre. The boys are now looking forward to the next match against Cheshire at Sale, Manchester on 31st March.

Keith Etherington

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Lymm RFC is mourning the death of one of its former Presidents and long serving member, Keith Etherington who died on March 1st. A popular member of the Cheshire club, Keith will also be remembered as a highly regarded and popular referee.

Keith was a gentleman in every sense of the word with a huge appetite and enthusiasm for the game of rugby. His knowledge and experience earned him huge respect, not only throughout his own club and Cheshire, but in Northern rugby; witty and candid, Keith’s opinions were widely sought and valued.

Such a character is going to be missed by everyone who was fortunate to come into contact with him and certainly the clubhouse at Beechwood will not be the same without Keith Etherington.

Our condolences are extended to all Keith’s family at this sad time. The funeral will take place at Altrincham Crematorium (Dunham) on Friday March 12th at 3.00 pm., further details can be obtained from Lymm’s web site.

Charlie in North of England squad

Monday, December 14th, 2009

Monday 14th December 2009

Charlie Swarbrick

Charlie Swarbrick

From a pretty proud Grandfather, Fred Swarbrick :-

Charlie was selected for the North of England U16 side yesterday after an extensive and testing trial at Mount St. Mary’s College Chesterfield. 49 lads were present in residence at the College and after a tremendous match on Sunday afternoon the selection was made.

Charlie will take his place at scrum half in the North of England side. A tremendous achievement. Another product of our proud Vale of Lune Club.

Charlie, a pupil at Ripley St Thomas, has the right kind of sporting pedigree.  Dad Steve was a long time Vale scrum-half and former Lancashire player, while grandad Fred was a long serving Vale hooker, player for Cumbria and himself a former North of England player.

Three Vale first teamers have been picked for the Lancashire Under 20s final trial game against North Wales.  Forwards James Hesketh, Ollie Cowey and Sam Wallbank are in the squad for the game at Wigan on Sunday.

Vikings are team of the week

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Following on from their victory at Pendle on Saturday, Vale of Lune Vikings have been confirmed as the Miller Homes League ‘Team of the Week’.  It is just reward for a side that has been playing well of late.  Captain, Paul McAllister said: ” We have managed to put togther a reasonably settled side and this has reflected in the way we have been playing.  We are capable of good rugby and we performed really well at Pendle   Now we must hope to continue playing in similar fashion and improve our league position.”
