The Vale Ladies travelled away for their first game in the RFUW Championship North and kicked off the season with a real bang!

The game started well with the first try scored in the eighth minute by Leanna Plunkett, who took on a handful of the opposition with strong hand offs and a good turn of speed. The home side replied with a few good breaks but were well held by the Vale's solid and well organised defensive system.
It was quite a tug of war between the two sets of forwards but then some great team work involving Louise Redman and Julie Walker and the rest of the backs, released Leanna again to juggle the ball, piroette past three defenders to score under the posts - Julie Clegg duly converted.

Other tries were scored by Louise Redman, Zoe Bayne, Nat Wray and Jen Evans, Julie added three conversions.

Special mention must go to two of the try scorers, Zoe and Nat, and also to prop Sarah Weeks who are all new to the game and put inoutstanding performances.
A good start to the season for the Ladies (top of the table after one game) but there is still more to come from the girls as the season settles in and the opponents get tougher.

Next game is on Sunday 23 Sept when Darlington Mowden Park Sharks visit The Lane for a 3.00pm kick off. Darlington had an impressive 39-5 win over Carlisle in their first game ensuring Sunday's game is a real top of the table clash.
