LADIES TOPPLE DARLINGTON
VALE LADIES 24 DARLINGTON M.P 0
RFUW Championship North 1
Vale Ladies travelled to table toppers Darlington expecting a difficult hard fought game but soon conquered the rain and mud exerting pressure on the home side from the first whistle. Relentless pressure from the Vale pack saw blind side Lol Kenny pick up from a ruck to drive over for the first try. A second followed 10 minutes later with a great break from 'Player of the Day' Julie Walker, who weaved in and out of the Darlington defence before releasing Izzy Howard to score. The first half ended with the Vale under some pressure on their own line but excellent tackling from Danielle Jeffrey and tireless defending from the rest of the team kept the score at 10-0 at half time.
The second half saw continued pressure on the Darlington defence - Sally Wilkinson giving Darlington's fly half a torrid time. As the home side began to lose focus Emma Bolton scored an excellent try under the posts, converted by Leanna Plunkett who was on kicking duty in place of the unavailable Captain Julie Clegg.
Vale had been srummaging well all afternoon and were soon driving Darlington back over their own line. As Lol Kenny picked up at the back, a Darlington player transgressed and a penalty try was awarded, easily converted by Plunkett.
Beating top of the League Darlington 24-0 was a well deserved outcome after possibly the best all round performance of the season so far.
The Ladies return to Powderhouse Lane next Sunday (9th December) for a 'local derby' versus Carlisle - kick off 2.00pm
