A clubhouse full to capacity heralded a magnificent sporting dinner with legendary international goalkeeper Gordon Banks as the club's guest of honour. He held his audience spellbound as he described in his own unassuming style, his life as a professional footballer.
Gordon's frame by frame account of his save, which has been described as the 'greatest ever', in the 1970 World Cup finals against Brazil, had everyone on the edge of their seats.

Master of Ceremonies was Lancashire sport's commentator John Gwynne and his wonderful professional expertise helped raise plenty of money for the development fund. A winner was Dave Walker, captain of the squash section, who picked up £200 for his skills in heads and tails. He promptly presented half of the proceeds back to Gordon Banks for his own special charity.

There was a poignant moment when it was revealed to the diners that 'Grandad' Lord had died the day before. Everyone stood for a special 'clap' a gesture much appreciated by the Lord family attending the dinner.
The dinner was supported by Halbro Sportswear, Lancashire Cricket Club, Preston North End and Blackpool FC. The Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston was a special guest and presented two cup final tickets which were auctioned. Rod Taylor, Morecambe FC's chief executive was another guest.
